Carp Slam

Volunteer Controllers are an essential part of the Denver Trout Unlimited Carp Slam – They measure fish, revive and release fish, report each team’s fish, monitor the rules, and take photos.

A Carp Slam Controller is an awesome opportunity if you love fly fishing and/or have been thinking about trying to figure out how to fish the South Platte River in and around Denver.  Controllers are the “referees” of the tournament. They follow teams around and monitor rules and measure fish. It’s a full day on the water and a lot of fun hanging out, watching and learning from some of the most accomplished anglers from Colorado and beyond.

Denver TU is looking for Controller volunteers to help with Pro/Am Carp Slam XVII on September 16, 2023.  The fishing venue will be 15 beats on the Denver South Platte River from Oxford downstream to 120th Ave.  We are seeking people to work as Controllers  for the teams on the river. This is an opportunity to learn about fly fishing for carp and other species on the Platte from the smartest, slickest, smoothest anglers in the world.  You should be in good physical condition and willing to work the full day from 7 AM to 5 PM.

With the funds raised at Carp Slam we’re also expanding our youth outreach programs including Trout in the Classroom.
